Each time a prominent honors show nears, you'll find a clamor to include fresh award types to recognize unsung work and fill the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.
A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
- Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Commonly they're small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
