“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
